The IAFF is collaborating with Novartis Pharmaceuticals on a campaign to raise our members awareness on the dangers of high blood pressure. For those who are unaware, Novartis provided free blood pressure screenings in the exhibit area during convention. More than 400 of our members took advantage of this opportunity. We are looking for members who have taken steps to control their blood pressure. The method used isn’t important. We are not endorsing any product or medication. The campaign is simply to raise awareness and to encourage members to discuss treatment options with their physician. Please ask your affiliates to contact my office if they have any members who would like to participate in this important campaign. We have found member testimonials to be a key factor in other members seeking assistance in health and wellness programs. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Please contact Jim Brinkley of the IAFF at jbrinkley@iaff.org if you can participate. Stay safe.......................rjw.

Long time friend of fire fighters Travis Naught traveled to Alaska in search of the great Tenakee halibut and found success. Juneau IAFF Local 4303 members Roy Johnston, Jamie Johns, Noah Jenkins and Craig Brown facilitated the trip with thier expertise, tackle and boats to make this dream trip possible. Travis is currently finishing his masters degree and is 23 years old. A former MDA ambassador, Travis is still heavily involved in MDA and an inspiration to others afflicted with this disease that affects a persons muscles while leaving the mind sharp. Travis is an avid fisherman and was accompanied by Local 1052 President Damon Bryan and 6 other 1052 members as well members from Pocatello and Boise, Idaho. Travis nabbed his limit every day of the trip. More to follow on this story of an amazing man, living with Muscular Dystrophy and his positive effect on hardened Union leaders.
