New IAFF General Secretary Treasurer Elected--Thomas H. Miller
Updated
On: Jan 21, 2010 (14:32:00)
Today, a historic event occurred within the IAFF Executive Board who elected IAFF's 8th District Vice President Thomas H. Miller to be the next General Secretary Treasurer of this International Association of Fire Fighters. This is the first time that the C&B of the IAFF had to be initiated to fill a position vacated by a principal officer, with the resignation of GST Vinny Bollon who served this great International for over 20 years as IAFF's GST.
Thomas (Tommy) H. Miller served in the Indianapolis Fire Department for 37 years, the son of a Fire Captain that died in the line of duty. GST Miller went on to serve the IAFF for nearly 35 years in the capacities of Local S/T, president, State President (24 years) and 8th District IAFF VP for 9 1/2 years. In an acceptance speech, GST Miller stated that Vinny Bollon had left "large shoes to fill......he was humbled by this great honor and support given to him by his peers on the board.....and that he could not have accomplished this without the love and support of his wife Barb for the past 28 years". GST Miller was sworn in today and takes office immediately.

Fire Fighters Invited for HD Outing
Updated
On: Jan 11, 2010 (08:30:00)
Hey Riders! I trust you all had a Happy New Year! Its time for our 2010 opener! Sound Harley has graciously planned a Fire/Police appreciation night. Saturday Jan. 16th 6pm they will be hosting their annual appreciation night. This is for all fire and police, active or retired. Last year was great, with good food, refreshments, entertainment, and camaraderie. Sound Harley Staff are very friendly and make us fell right at home. They close the shop and throw a great party for us, as well as offer discounts to FFs and Police. Last year was a bit cold and one crazy FF actually rode up for this event. If the weather will work with us we should plan to ride again and show Sound Harley that we appreciate them doing this for us. Check out the attached flyer and try to make the trip............and a special thanks to Kari of Sound HD for heading this up! I hope to see you all there! Of note: The picture to the left is WSCFF District Reps Keven Rojecki and Dean Shelton on thier ride.....just maybe they should consider an upgrade!

Lets Have a Safe and Happy New Year
Updated
On: Dec 27, 2009 (12:44:00)
As we bid farewell to 2009 and welcome 2010 I submit that we give thanks for all we have accomplished...that we work in an industry that truly has blossomed BECAUSE of a Union..... this great Union, the IAFF. That all of us have had the opportunity to learn from great mentors...great leaders....great friends.... and the list is long in this Magnificent 7th District and certainly the IAFF. The list of accomplishments are many and just to name two......three and four platoon systems, and I hope that will get some of the newer members asking about one and two platoon systems--that were common only 60 years ago. We have learned from the mistakes of others and certainly our own....and for those lessons we must strive, as many Locals have demonstrated, to lift the rest of Labor up to our stair step, not only through word but deed. And, finally we never forget those that have made the ultimate sacrafice before us often times giving us a lesson to save others....with that stated please click below and re-aquaint yourselves with Mark Noble, Local 468 member, died January 15, 2005 but made this video for all of you in hopes that you will take care of yourself...............for 2010, god bless and be safe..........Ricky

Updated
On: Dec 07, 2009 (14:16:00)
It is with deepest sorrow that to announce the passing of one of Local 1805's veteran firefighters, Richard D. Streissguth. The boys in the family were en route to Bozeman, Montana to take possession of the the 12th rig in a collection of antique fire engines when the vehicle they occupied left the roadway and tumbled down an embankment. Rick’s son Jacob and his brother-in-law Douglas R. Jacobsen were also in the vehicle. Jacob suffered critical injuries and is being treated at a Missoula hospital, firefighter Rick Streissguth and Doug Jacobsen were killed on impact. The accident happened around 8:00am Saturday, December 5, 2009. They were about an hour outside of Bozeman. The cause of the crash has been ruled accidental. Firefighter Rick Streissguth is survived by his wife Jennifer, his 15-year-old daughter Mackenzie, his13-year-old son Jacob, and their mother Erin Rose. Doug Jacobsen was a Business Manager for Snap-on Tools and is survived by his wife Kay Streissguth-Jacobsen. Fire District 6 and the Local 1805 Professional Firefighters have appointed family liaisons to assist the family and communicate their needs to the District. Fire District 6 and the Local 1805 Professional Firefighters have assisted in sending immediate family members to Missoula to be with Jacob. The District has brought in Chaplains to meet with family members and District personnel, along with offering CISD. Firefighting is a Streissguth family legacy. Firefighter Rick Streissguth had been serving Fire District 6 since 1980. His father Dick Streissguth has served since 1954, first as a volunteer then as Fire Chief from 1977-1994 and currently as Board Secretary. Rick’s brother Steve Streissguth is a Deputy Chief with Vancouver Fire Department. The death of firefighter Rick Streissguth is not only a loss to Fire District 6 but to the entire community. Rick Streissguth assisted in saving many lives and touching many more. It is now our time to honor the lives of Rick Streissguth and Doug Jacobsen. Memorial details are forthcoming. In lieu of flowers the families have established a Streissguth/Jacobsen Memorial fund for Mackenzie and Jacob. Donations can be made at any branch of People’s Community Federal Credit Union.
